How to use the Business Loan EMI & Affordability Calculator
Calculate EMI, eligibility, and total cost for various business loan types. Includes risk assessment and tax benefit analysis. This tool is designed for Indian users who want a quick estimate before comparing options, speaking with an advisor, or committing money. It helps you compare monthly affordability, total interest, repayment pressure, and the effect of tenure before taking a loan.
What this calculator answers
Whether a business loan EMI can be serviced from monthly operating cash flow, and what the loan adds to fixed costs.
Practical tip
Lenders often look for a debt service coverage ratio above about 1.25. Test your EMI against a weak month, not your best month.
Worked example
If a business earns Rs 1.5 lakh a month in operating cash flow before debt, an EMI of Rs 60,000 leaves a coverage ratio of 2.5. An EMI of Rs 1.3 lakh would leave almost no room for a slow month.
Formula and methodology
For reducing-balance loans, EMI = P x R x (1 + R)^N / ((1 + R)^N - 1), where P is principal, R is monthly interest rate, and N is total number of months.
WealthWiseGrow keeps calculator inputs private in your browser wherever possible. The result should be treated as an educational estimate and reviewed against the official product terms, bank quote, fund document, tax rule, or salary structure that applies to your situation.
Example interpretation
For example, a Rs 10 lakh loan at 10% annual interest for 5 years has a very different total cost from the same loan stretched to 7 years. The longer tenure may look comfortable every month, but the extra interest can reduce your long-term savings capacity.
After calculating, compare at least two scenarios: a conservative case and an optimistic case. This helps you avoid planning around a single number that may not survive changes in income, interest rates, inflation, tax rules, or market returns.
Key assumptions
- - Interest is compounded monthly unless the calculator specifically states otherwise.
- - Processing fees, insurance, foreclosure charges, stamp duty, and bank-specific fees may not be included in the base result.
- - Changing tenure can reduce EMI but may increase total interest substantially.
Common mistakes
- - Choosing the lowest EMI without checking total interest.
- - Ignoring prepayment rules and foreclosure charges.
- - Comparing loans only by interest rate instead of total cost.
