How to use the Advanced Loan Prepayment & EMI Calculator
Calculate EMI with prepayment options, amortization schedule, and scenario comparisons. This tool is designed for Indian users who want a quick estimate before comparing options, speaking with an advisor, or committing money. It helps you compare monthly affordability, total interest, repayment pressure, and the effect of tenure before taking a loan.
What this calculator answers
How part-prepayments, rate changes and extra payments change a loan's EMI, tenure and total interest, compared with a plain schedule.
Practical tip
When you prepay, most banks let you choose between a lower EMI and a shorter tenure. Shortening the tenure usually saves more interest.
Worked example
On a long home loan, one extra payment each year in the early years can remove several years from the tenure. The amortization table shows exactly which month the loan closes with and without prepayments.

Formula and methodology
For reducing-balance loans, EMI = P x R x (1 + R)^N / ((1 + R)^N - 1), where P is principal, R is monthly interest rate, and N is total number of months.

Example interpretation
For example, a Rs 10 lakh loan at 10% annual interest for 5 years has a very different total cost from the same loan stretched to 7 years. The longer tenure may look comfortable every month, but the extra interest can reduce your long-term savings capacity.
After calculating, compare at least two scenarios: a conservative case and an optimistic case. This helps you avoid planning around a single number that may not survive changes in income, interest rates, inflation, tax rules, or market returns.
Key assumptions
- - Interest is compounded monthly unless the calculator specifically states otherwise.
- - Processing fees, insurance, foreclosure charges, stamp duty, and bank-specific fees may not be included in the base result.
- - Changing tenure can reduce EMI but may increase total interest substantially.
Common mistakes
- - Choosing the lowest EMI without checking total interest.
- - Ignoring prepayment rules and foreclosure charges.
- - Comparing loans only by interest rate instead of total cost.
EMI Tips
Prepayments can significantly reduce total interest.
